In the days, months and years following the September 11 terrorist attacks, scores of funeral professionals from across the country traveled to New York City, volunteering their time to assist in recovery efforts, contact families, identify remains and help grieving families plan services for their loved ones. For many, this meant traveling a great distance and leaving their own families behind to help other families who were grieving unfathomable loss. Their stories, for the most part, have gone untold over the past two decades.
